Hello

Welcome, I'm Dr Rachel Lee. I'm a friendly and experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist and trauma specialist. I have helped hundreds of people recover from distressing experiences and overcome anxiety and low self-esteem. I am the founder of North Star Psychology Ltd, a psychological therapy service offering a range of in-person and online therapies, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT). I studied Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford and completed my clinical doctorate at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London. Our psychological therapy service is based at Eastthorpe Hall, in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, near Leeds, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Sheffield and Bradford.

Specialist Therapy for Anxiety and Trauma-related Difficulties

We know that thinking about starting therapy is hard and finding a private therapist is even harder. We have provided lots of information about the therapies we offer, as well as testimonials, so that you can understand more about the type of therapy we provide and decide whether one of our therapists might be the right fit for you. We take pride in offering a range of compassionate and high quality, evidence-based and effective therapies so that our clients can begin to heal and recover from their difficulties as quickly as possible. We have a quiet, soothing clinic room at Eastthorpe Hall Wellness Centre in West Yorkshire.  We also offer online therapy, including online EMDR, so that we can help you wherever you live or if you are unable to attend in-person therapy session. We have a free webinar on 9 April 2024 and a free guide to a more fulfilling life.

We use a range of therapies such as eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), compassion focused therapy (CFT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) to help our clients recover from anxiety, low self-esteem and/or painful, distressing or traumatic experiences. If you would like to learn skills to manage your emotions, feel more confident, do more of the things that matter to you and/or improve your relationships, then visit the page for our therapy service or trauma service to find out more or click here to book a free consultation with Rachel.

Coaching

If you are facing some problems that you need to overcome, if you want to improve your performance in a particular area of your life, or if you need some help to work out which direction to take when faced with difficult choices (e.g. like changing roles), coaching may be the right approach for you. Unlike therapy, coaching does not focus on the past. Coaching helps you use the resources and skills you already have to focus on finding ways to overcome the obstacles that are holding you back, so that you can achieve your goals. A coach can help you discover the best options for you, based on what is important to you, your values and what you want to achieve. Your coach is there to help you move to action, or put your ideas into practice. Coaching is as much about "doing" as it is about talking; your coach will hold you accountable to the plans you make together, to maximise the chances that you will achieve your goals. Retreats and Wellbeing Workshops

We are passionate about sharing psychological knowledge, skills, strategies and tips to help others improve their wellbeing and lead more fulfilling lives. We are offering a free webinar: on Tuesday 9 April: From Overwhelmed to In Control: Three Ways to Thrive at Work. We will address feelings of overwhelm, saying no and setting healthy boundaries and overcoming self-doubt. You can register here, the session will be recorded.

We will soon open bookings for our first restorative retreat, called "Relax. Rebalance. Recharge.", which will take place on Friday 13 September 2024 in the beautiful setting of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. There will be a mix of creative and outdoor elements and psychological components (including, for example, mindfulness, breathwork and overcoming internal obstacles) to give an holistic approach to soothing your nervous system. The aim of the day is to help you feel calmer, recharge, and identify ways to create more balance in your life. You will experience ways to cope better with the stresses of modern, busy lives, where we are pulled in many different directions. Places are limited, if you would like to register your interest and be the first to hear when bookings open, please join our waiting list.

Clinical Supervision

Dr Rachel Lee offers clinical supervision to individuals and groups and has supervised a range of professionals during her career, including EMDR therapists, mental health nurses, consultant and senior clinical psychologists, psychiatrists and CBT therapists. Rachel has specific training in supervision and offers a range of both individual and group supervision options, including model-specific supervision and reflective spaces for individuals or groups of people working in emotionally-challenging roles.

Psychological Consultancy and Support for Teams and Organisations

We offer consultancy to teams and organisations to bring psychological theories, ideas and strategies into the workplace. We can use behavioural science to develop ways to improve the wellbeing of your workforce. For example, we can deliver training on mindfulness and mindful communication, psychological safety within teams and trauma-informed practice. We can work with leaders to help them improve their psychological flexibility. We can also look at the work environment and make recommendations that will help the people who work for you function at their optimal level. Often work places have not been designed with the human nervous system in mind and a few tweaks can make help people feel more relaxed, which is good for wellbeing as well as productivity. We can help you support someone who has been on extended sick leave to return to work. We can offer specialist treatment for employees who are struggling with anxiety or are recovering from a distressing or traumatic event, such as an accident, complex birth or workplace bullying. Previous work within organisations has included evaluating a psychological support programme for NHS workers, offering psychological support sessions for volunteers within a charity and delivering training on trauma-informed care.
