Meet Our Team
We are a growing team of skilled and experienced clinicians, with a passion for helping people heal and recover.
Founder, Director & Clinical Psychologist
Dr Rachel Lee
I'm excited to expand North Star Psychology into a psychology service with a team of like-minded friendly, compassionate and committed therapists. I'm an experienced, Chartered Clinical Psychologist and an accredited EMDR Therapist. I worked in a number of NHS settings for 20 years up to November 2022, including as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. My passion is helping people recover from trauma-related difficulties, such as post-traumatic stress, anxiety and low self-esteem. Traumatic events can haunt us throughout our lives, but therapies like EMDR can help us heal and recover, often relatively quickly. I have helped people recover from distressing births, assaults, accidents, childhood trauma and traumatic bereavements. I offer a relaxed and flexible approach to help my clients improve their lives and achieve their goals. I am trained in a number of therapeutic models (CBT, EMDR, ACT, DBT), so I can tailor my approach to your needs.

As well as running North Star Psychology Ltd, I enjoy offering psychological input into charities and also have a role as an Associate Non Executive Director at the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

I offer in-person and online therapy sessions. My working hours are 9am - 5pm, Monday - Thursday. My waiting list is 4-6 weeks.
Specialist Psychotherapist
Carmen Marchant
I am an integrative relational therapist and a trained DBT therapist. I believe that a person's past experiences are important to their current lives and difficulties. I work flexibly to offer the right therapeutic approach for the individual. Humanistic, relational and creative approaches underpin my relational work, alongside the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) model. DBT is an evidence-based therapy for intense emotions and interpersonal difficulties. I have a masters degree in psychotherapy and am a registered and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I have over 15 years of experience within the NHS. I've worked as an adult psychotherapist for the last 8 years, seeing clients with a range of mental health difficulties, such as depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and trauma-related difficulties. I now work in staff support, offering therapy to a range of health professionals from nurses to psychiatrists.
I offer online therapy on a Tuesday evening and currently have a waiting list.
Forensic Psychologist and Trauma Therapist
Dr Katie Hudson
I am a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society and registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council. I qualified as a Forensic Psychologist in 2013. My training and experience covers a broad range of psychological difficulties, with specific expertise in the area of attachment difficulties and early or childhood trauma. Many of the people I work with have struggled for a number of years with either re-experiencing their trauma (e.g. flashbacks and nightmares) or with the secondary effects of trauma such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, substance use, self-esteem, identity difficulties, self-harm and offending behaviour. There is often a feeling helplessness and despair that things can never be any different and I always feel honoured when clients place their trust in me to support them to overcome their difficulties. It is very rewarding to help people move towards living the life they want through therapy.

I offer a warm, compassionate and personable approach to therapy and I aim to draw upon a person’s strengths as a tool to relieve distress. I strive for my clients to feel empowered and part of their therapeutic journey, by including them in the formulation of their difficulties and the direction and pace that their therapy takes. I place focus on the therapeutic relationship and processes in a transparent way in order to create a collaborative and supportive environment for change. I draw from a number of psychological models within my practice in order to tailor the therapy to the individual’s specific needs. These include cognitive behavioural therapy (including trauma processing), compassion focused therapy, schema informed therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and motivational interviewing.

Alongside my private practice, I also have a consultancy role within the NHS, where I use psychological approaches to support staff teams who work with individuals who have a history of trauma.

I offer online therapy sessions on a Thursday at 4pm. I will have availability for online or in-person therapy sessions on a Wednesday over the next few weeks.
EMDR Consultant and Accredited CBT Therapist
Nicola McLean
I am a registered Mental Health Nurse with 23 years clinical experience within NHS in a wide range of mental health difficulties and settings. I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with the BABCP and an accredited EMDR Consultant. Using evidence-based psychological therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy,
Mindfulness Based CBT, I work with people to help them understand the pattern and experience of their difficulties and develop their chosen goals. Entering therapy can be difficult and stressful so I focus on helping people feel comfortable with a flexible approach in order to reduce these worries.
Over the years I have continued with updating my professional education and training to best
assist clients with their mental health needs. I provide online sessions for individual therapy with adults and supervision for professional colleagues. This work is varied and covers a wide range of topics such as trauma, grief, anxiety, work stress as some examples as well as many others. Working with EMDR for example can assist clients to address the source of their distress and ease both the mental and physiological distress associated with negative life events.
My preferred approach is relaxed, whilst trying to keep everything simple as sometimes problems and life can be complicated. Outside of my clinical work I am most likely to be found in the garden.
I offer online therapy on week nights. If you need therapy at the weekend, we can discuss this as a possibility.
EMDR Therapist and Systemic Psychotherapist
Jenny McAuslane
I am a Systemic Psychotherapist and EMDR Therapist, with over 20 years of experience working with trauma and distress. I am registered with UKCP and a member of the EMDR Association and Association of Family Therapy. I hold a Masters degree in Systemic Psychotherapy from the University of Leeds. I am also a qualified Probation Officer. In addition to my training, having a broad range of experience with both adults and young people in a variety of settings has helped me to develop skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- attachment and developmental trauma
-adoption and fostering
-anxiety and depression
-self-harm/suicide
-relationship difficulties
-substance misuse/addictions
-offending behaviour
-domestic violence (working with perpetrators and survivors)
-sexually harmful behaviour
As an EMDR therapist, I work with individuals who present with a variety of difficulties, to help resolve the distress associated with traumatic memories. By processing these memories, the natural healing processes can be activated, and clients are able to experience relief from unwanted psychological symptoms such as low mood or anxiety.

As a systemic psychotherapist, I have a relational philosophy. This is that psychological difficulties can be located within the broader system of relationships or family context. I enjoy working with families, couples and individuals with a focus on relationships. Within systemic therapy, it is possible to identify unhelpful patterns of relating and coping and together find the resources in the individuals and in the couple/family to change them into preferred ways of being and relating. This can be achieved by exploring and understanding how inter/generational family roles, rules and ways of communicating can impact on current beliefs and behaviours.

I believe that every person deserves to live a life that they value and find fulfilling, and I am committed to supporting individuals and families to develop the resources to achieve this. I am compassionate and empathic, with a strengths-based approach.

I am based in Leeds and can offer online or in-person EMDR therapy on Wednesdays between 4-5pm, 6-7pm and Thursdays between 9-10:30am.
