Hello, I'm Dr Rachel Lee. I'm a friendly and experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist and trauma specialist and the director of North Star Psychology Ltd. We know that choosing a therapist is hard and that therapy involves a high level of emotional investment. You need to know that the therapist you are going to see has the appropriate skills to help you and also you need to feel comfortable with their approach and values. You can read about my qualifications and experience here and understand the values of North Star Psychology Ltd here and you can read about our team or carefully selected therapists here. We also have a number of testimonials, which will help you understand more about our approach.

We have a soothing clinic room in the tranquil and beautiful Eastthorpe Hall. We also offer online therapy, including online EMDR, so that we can help you wherever you live or if you are unable to attend in-person therapy session.

We use evidence-based therapies such as eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion focused therapy (CFT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) to help our clients improve their relationships, feel more confident, be more productive at work, and/or do more of the things that matter to them.

We offer a free consultation, which gives you a chance to explore your needs for therapy and ask any questions you may have. I will meet you online or speak with you on the phone to discuss your current difficulties and the sort of help you are looking for. I will then offer some treatment recommendations and identify the therapist in the team who will be most suitable for you.

"I am so grateful to Rachel for all the help she's given me, my life is transformed. I was listened to, my thoughts, feels and experiences were validated instead of being dismissed, which is what I was used to. The approach we used was EMDR which I was sceptical of I didn't think it would work but with the guidance I received it worked so quickly."

Common Reasons for Seeking Therapy

Are you struggling with intrusive thoughts and memories about past experiences?

Do flashbacks or nightmares leave you feeling frightened and exhausted?

Are anxiety or trauma symptoms affecting your work, studies or parenting?

Have you turned down important opportunities because of how you feel?

Do you spend a lot of time feeling worried, anxious or unsafe?

Do you feel irritable and find it hard to feel close to people?

Do you avoid doing things that you would like to do?

Have you lost confidence and a sense of who you are?

Are you feeling stuck and also ready to make changes?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you are not alone.

These are common difficulties and there are effective treatments that can help you heal and recover.

I have over  20 years of experience of working in the NHS, most recently as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. My associates have current NHS roles. We all attend training courses each year to refine and improve our therapy skills, so that we can be as effective as possible for our clients. We love helping people find ways to create a more fulfilling life, where they can flourish and thrive.

Our clients usually notice improvements within the first few sessions and most people complete therapy within 6-12 sessions. We work together with you to find a pace that feels right. Some people value more time to talk about their experiences, others prefer to focus mainly on strategies. Whether you are looking for in-person therapy, or online therapy, we will listen to you so that we can design a treatment plan that will help you reach your goals.

If you are feeling stuck or if it feels like your past is holding you back, book in for a free consultation to discuss how we might be able to help you.

it got rid of all the traumatic baggage for me." (EMDR Client)

Is Online Therapy Helpful?

You may feel a little unsure about online therapy,  if you haven't tried it before. That's natural. I offer a free online consultation, so that you can see how it feels for you. Some of my clients tell me that they prefer having therapy from the comfort of their own home. Others find online therapy easier to fit in around their other commitments. Online therapy (including online EMDR therapy) has been shown to be just as effective as in-person therapy.

If you prefer in-person therapy, then you can arrange to see us at Eastthorpe Hall.

Trauma Therapy, EMDR, CBT, ACT, CFT & DBT

We offer online Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and also a range of cognitive and behavioural therapies (CBT, ACT, CFT, DBT-informed therapy) for various difficulties from trauma responses and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to anxiety disorders, work stress, low mood, and difficulties with intense emotions and relationships, including borderline personality disorder. These evidence-based therapies usually work relatively quickly.

In the initial one or two therapy sessions we will develop a shared understanding of your difficulties and identify your therapy goals. At the end of this assessment, we will discuss our recommendations and work with you to develop a bespoke treatment plan that meets your needs.
