Recommended Wellbeing Resources

These are some of the books and products that I have found helpful and/or recommend to my clients. If you have other resources that you find helpful, let me know by email, as I'm always keen to find new ideas, strategies and resources.

Quit.jpg

Quit is a brilliant book, which is all about decision-making. We have a culture that promotes "grit" and perseverance. Although perseverance is important, there are times when quitting would be more helpful for us, but the beliefs we have formed around quitting can hold us back. At other times, quitting can feel like such a big decision, that we get paralysed by the fear of getting it wrong. Annie Duke is a cognitive psychologist, was a professional poker player and is an expert on decision-making. This is a fascinating book, full of stories and science, that will help you make better decisions. The "kill criteria" helped me decide to leave the NHS.

Atomic Habits by James Clear

Atomic Habits 1.jpg

Atomic Habits is the ideal book for you if you are looking to change some of your behaviours or habits. It is full of helpful stories and psychological science and gives a number of principles that will set you up for success. It is called atomic habits because James Clear is an advocate of making small changes. He highlights how making a series of 1% improvements can lead to significant positive changes. In the book he gives lots of ideas and tips that will help you make lasting changes, by thinking about your values and creating good reasons for the changes you want to make, helping you to maintain the changes when it starts to feel boring (making changes is hard!) and how to build in positive rewards.
